Abyss

“Man looks in the abyss, there's nothing staring back at him. At that moment, man finds his character. And that is what keeps him out of the abyss.”

Ever had that feeling? I know I have. Can remember so well standing in a phone box crying in California when I realised there was nothing there.

did you find your character?

Ahhh I realised when I said that I had seen the abyss that the next thing to say was what my character was/is. Yes. But I think that feeling of collapse/darkness/void is so powerful.... I like this quote. It's pretty much what I remember the friend on the other end of the phone saying to me. Exactly the right thing.
